Jet Car Competition

With the all new design jet car participants will construct this amazing machine from purpose made kits and then test their designs on the race track with other participants. Prizes to be won for our Jet Car Champions. In addition participants will also learn fundamental elements of physics and engineering that include Newton's laws of motion, work, energy, friction and aerodynamics. Each participant will build their very own jet car to take home. (pump not included).

  • Jet cars are easy to construct vehicles that utilize a combination of laser cut plywood and PET soft drink bottles to create a high performance vehicle that is powered by compressed air.
  • With supporting instructional guidance and materials the Jet Car takes approximately 4 hours to build.
  • Each kit contains all the parts necessary to construct a fully working vehicle.
  • The vehicles are air charged using a standard bicycle pump with a specially made launch valve fitting.
  • Teams building jet cars will be required to enhance and modify their designs, construction techniques and subsequent performance improvements to maximize the performance of their vehicles.
  • Recommended age range 10 and upwards.
  • Jet Cars are a rewarding STEAM project rich in learning outcomes.
Teams and individuals will pit their skills and ingenuity to outperform their opponents in various race categories. Those categories will include..

  • Straight line Drag Racing over a 30m strip.
  • Duration/ speed challenge.
  • Outright Bonneville speed challenge.
  • Best build categories.
  • Open category supercars chaos.
  • Proposed state and national competition series.
  • Automotive engineering terminology
  • The history of land speed records
  • Fine motor skills and tools usage
  • Fine tuning for performance
  • Principles of physics and energy
STEAM specialist Mr Sam Gibbs will conduct the session. He brings with him over 20 years of expertise in delivering innovative and engaging activities and workshops for students of all ages globally.
